Google Messages Introduces the “Unsend” Text Feature

A new feature in Google Messages called “Delete for Everyone” would let users unsend messages for a set period of time. The function, which is currently being rolled out and mostly aimed at large group chats, was first tested in March and is currently accessible to a limited number of beta users.
The Feature is being Introduced Gradually
Reddit user u/seeareeff discovered the ‘Delete for everyone’ feature in a group chat with twelve people.
But it didn’t appear in one-on-one conversations or in smaller groups.
Some customers cannot access this option even having the most recent Google Messages beta build installed on their smartphones, suggesting that its dissemination is restricted to a small group of users on the Google Messages beta channel.
What is the Operation of the Feature?
Google Messages’ ‘Delete for everyone’ feature is anticipated to provide a 15-minute window.
Google is probably leveraging RCS Universal Profile 2.7, which was released with the facility, to deliver this new feature.
Similar to WhatsApp and in contrast to Telegram, where there is no sign that a message has been removed from a chat, Google Messages will display a “Message deleted” placeholder when a message is erased using this option.
Timeline for Rollout and Latest Developments
In May 2024, Google first made it possible to amend sent RCS messages within a 15-minute timeframe. In September of the same year, the feature was made more widely available.
It may take many weeks for the text elimination deployment to reach the stable channel.
In addition to this new feature, Google Messages has recently included other noteworthy features including the ability to turn off RCS spam and full-screen effects with only one emoji.
