Grantham, a “Riverdale” and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” actor, is accused of shooting and killing his mother at their house while she was practising the piano, according to the prosecution. He is accused of packing his car the following day with three firearms, Molotov cocktails, ammo, camping gear, and a map with the address of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s residence.

According to the CBC, Grantham, then 21, had intended to kill Trudeau but instead drove to Hope, British Columbia, before turning back with the intention of committing mass murder at Simon Fraser University or the Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver.

According to the publication, Grantham drove to Vancouver police instead of carrying out these crimes and confessed to killing his mother. He faces second-degree murder charges.

In a phone chat with NBC News on Friday, Grantham’s lawyer, Chris Johnson, revealed that his client had already given a statement to the court expressing regret for what he had done.

Johnson said that Grantham was experiencing untreated mental health issues, such as a serious depressive disorder, at the time of the murder. According to a psychiatrist, Grantham claimed he killed his mother in order to prevent her from witnessing what he was about to do, but he did not actually carry out the plan.

“Unusual circumstances exist, without a doubt. I believe the outcome was reasonable in light of all that happened “The lawyer replied.
