The chances of KL Rahul making the T20 World Cup are 50-50, despite his ability to bury strike rate doubts with the bat and microphone against CSK in IPL 2024

At the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul led his team to a convincing 8-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings on Friday with a superb performance. In an attempt to reach a goal of 177 runs on a slow pitch, Rahul aimed the CSK bowlers all over the field. With Quinton de Kock (54), he put up a strong 82 runs in 53 balls to establish a 134-run partnership for the first wicket.

Rahul got on to an especially fast start in his innings, taking a beating on Quinton de Kock in the first few overs since he was having trouble hitting boundaries. During the powerplay, Rahul had quickly reached 33 off just 16 deliveries and then reached his half-century in just 31 balls. This was a welcome departure from his previous performances, both this season and in the previous several IPL seasons, when he would frequently play the anchor role and protect his wicket.

When questioned about his aggressive purpose early in his innings at the post-match presentation, KL Rahul, the captain of the LSG, replied that he evaluated the circumstances and grabbed his chances, playing the balls according to their worth.

“Today it came off, as I have been attempting to examine the situation. They attempted to stop us with the spinners from Chennai. Our goal was to start off strong. Fortunately, my attempt to remove them was successful. You can take a few more chances as your partnership develops. I’m glad it took place,” Rahul stated.

With one over remaining, LSG managed to reach their target, and Rahul concluded his innings at a strike rate of 154.71. The captain also vaulted into the top five on the list of IPL 2024 scorers with his highest total to date.

For the T20 World Cup, Rahul is “still 50-50.”:

Even after his game-winning blowout, former Indian batsman Robin Uthappa said in his post-match expert appearance on JioCinema that a lot depends on Rahul’s ability to continue playing aggressively throughout the season. Uthappa further mentioned how surprised he was to see the LSG captain retreat into himself in spite of his several shots.

There are two things that are still, in my opinion, 50/50. His two main concerns were his health and his batting form a few weeks prior. The way he has batted in the previous three to four games has been incredible to watch. He exudes class when performing on song and the merits of the ball. He has such a talent for batting. Uthappa remarked, “He’s one of those guys who makes it a delightful experience.”

“The unconventional passes, the uppercut, or the backhand blow over the additional cover for a six… When I saw it, I wonder, “How is this guy doing (that)?” With his skill and work, he has a plenty of time. The problem is that a player with that level of skill is withdrawing into himself, claiming he must bat for a long time tonight even though he doesn’t have to. Just support your abilities,” he continued.

Rahul hasn’t played for the Indian T20I team since December 2022; he hasn’t even returned to the squad when Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli did during the team’s most recent T20I match against Afghanistan in January of this year, despite being fit.
