Nicholas Hays and Eddie Wright were instrumental in the Oriskany boys basketball team’s ability to extend their winning streak.
In the team’s home opener at Oriskany High School on Friday, the Centre State Conference defeated Remsen 52-35 thanks to a 42-point effort by junior Wright and senior Hays.
Since losing by two points at Waterville on December 6 to begin the 2024–25 season, the newly christened Skyhawks have won three straight games.
Wright finished with six rebounds and a season-high 24 points. Hays finished with four assists, seven rebounds, and eighteen points.
Together, the two, who are both on the CSC Division III first team, went 9 of 21 (42.9%) from three points.
The Skyhawks led 29-21 at the half thanks to eight points and 11 rebounds from sophomore Dean Koenig. After three quarters, Oriskany had a 45-32 advantage.
With a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, Matthew Helmer led Remsen. Dylan Jones finished with five points, ten rebounds, and four assists, while Tucker Hollenbeck contributed eleven points and four steals.
At tournament host Madison, Oriskany (3-1) will take on Stockbridge Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Oriskany is scheduled to participate in the competition the next day as well.
The next non-league game for Remsen (2-3) is set for Friday, January 3, at 7 p.m. at Brookfield.
