New Samsung EM32DX offers months of battery life with a 32-inch color e-ink display

Samsung has launched an unconventional display that sets itself apart from traditional monitors by incorporating color e-ink technology. This new product, named the EM32DX, is a 31.5-inch screen designed to deliver exceptional readability even in direct sunlight. It has now appeared at various online retailers, with some platforms offering it directly to everyday consumers. While Samsung’s official business store lists the display starting at \$1,200, other retailers like PCNation have already lowered the price to around \$1,166. Although this may seem high for a display of this size, the EM32DX is not built for standard multimedia use, but rather for low-power, static content applications.
The screen utilizes E Ink’s Spectra 6 Color panel, which can show up to 54,600 colors through a dithering process. The color representation isn’t intended to rival high-end OLED or IPS displays in vibrancy, but instead prioritizes clarity in well-lit environments. With a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, it doesn’t match the 4K clarity offered by many other displays in a similar price range. However, the EM32DX has its own advantages that cater to specific needs.
What makes this display stand out is its efficiency and practicality. It comes with a built-in 4,600mAh battery capable of lasting up to 500 days if the screen image is only refreshed once every three days. Even if used more actively, the display remains highly energy-efficient, requiring far less power than conventional options. Because of its low energy demands, the screen can also be charged using a power bank, freeing it from the need for a constant power source.
Measuring just 0.7 inches in thickness, the EM32DX is designed for settings such as public information displays, advertisements, or scheduling boards. Its operation can be managed wirelessly through WiFi and controlled using a smartphone, allowing content updates without physical intervention. The display remains visible even without a backlight, as long as there’s ample ambient lighting, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor usage scenarios where readability, durability, and power conservation are priorities.
