Aside from dental and doctor’s appointments, children also fear assessment exams. Psychologically, many children have a fear of rejection or failure. The pressure of exams can take a toll on them and result in traumas that they will carry until they get old.

What can you do as a parent? It is a collaborative effort of both the parent and your chosen NAPLAN tutoring institution. This article will let you learn different ways on how you can help your child overcome fear and gain more confidence in taking the NAPLAN exam.

What is NAPLAN, and how can tutoring help your child?

NAPLAN gauges the capability of your child in literacy and numerical skills. It is a test where the government and several education institutions will check to see if the general population of Australian children pass the standards of learning.

Some people see the NAPLAN exam as bad and think that it snuffs out the joy in learning and stifles the learning pace of children. Aside from this, teachers have also reported that approximately 90% of students feel anxious and stressed before the test. Nevertheless, this exam is still required to be taken by children, and exemption is very rare. Here are things that NAPLAN tutoring can do to give your child all the help that they need:

  • To know the capabilities of your child.

NAPLAN isn’t a pass or fail examination. It measures your child’s skills and knowledge on different critical aspects. Knowing your child’s weaknesses and strengths will make you aware of which aspects of their skills you need to focus on improving and maintaining.

  • Address their weakness.

As mentioned earlier, helping your child is a collaborative effort. In knowing their weaknesses, you and the tutoring institution can talk and strategize a learning plan that best works for your child. Taking a step-by-step procedure on addressing the things that your child needs to improve can be helpful for them to feel less pressured.

  • Their learning can be designed at their own pace.

Once you have come up with a learning plan, observe first how your child responds to this and continuously adjust it to ensure that they are comfortable with this learning pace. Effective learning pace will most likely give the child more chances of facing less pressure and have a learning environment that they are completely comfortable with.

  • Rewards System.

Children tend to be more obedient and hardworking when they are rewarded. It is not that hard to please a child – just a simple reward such as their favorite food, toys, or even verbal praises lifts their moods and drives productivity. It is also best to carefully schedule a playtime or a rest time for them, and it is not good to dedicate all of their youthful time to studying. You can take them for a walk in the park or a quick playtime in your backyard.

Grades are just numbers; they won’t define you forever.

These examinations are just part of their growth and possible contribution to the community. It is not bad that at a very young age, they know that as a citizen of a nation, they also carry a responsibility. But bear in mind that they are still kids and be their guide on learning effectively.
