In the race for India’s biggest SUV manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki beats Mahindra

Maruti Suzuki has once again demonstrated its dominance as the market’s top manufacturer of SUVs in the dynamic environment of the automotive industry. Maruti Suzuki has surpassed its rivals and secured its position as the largest SUV manufacturer in the Indian market thanks to an exceptional track record and a dedication to innovation.

In the month of July 2023, Mahindra & Mahindra were surpassed by Maruti Suzuki, a well-known Indian automaker brand, to take the top spot in the Indian SUV market. Mahindra only sold 36,124 SUVs in July compared to Maruti’s 42,620 sales. The Brezza, Fronx, and Grand Vitara were the three models that made Maruti stand out in July.

A whopping 42,620 utility cars were sold by Maruti Suzuki in July 2023, a phenomenal 167% increase over the same month the year before. The continuous demand for models like the Grand Vitara, Jimny, Fronx, Invicto, S-Cross, and XL6 offered through the Nexa channel is to be responsible for this large development.

Maruti Suzuki had a surge in sales thanks to the introduction of models like the Fronx and Jimny, which resulted in a cumulative order book for SUVs of 110,000 units. Maruti Suzuki sold about 135,246 SUVs during April to July 2023, somewhat less than Mahindra & Mahindra’s 136,174 sales. However, Maruti Suzuki is anticipated to overtake Mahindra as the top SUV manufacturer by the end of August 2023, ahead of schedule.

In terms of car sales in the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki’s high-end sales channel, Nexa, has eclipsed Hyundai and taken second place from the South Korean behemoth. Overall, Maruti Suzuki is currently the market leader for automobiles in India with both of its brands. In comparison to Hyundai Motor India, which sold 199,000 units in the first four months of the current fiscal year, Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa dealerships sold about 184,200 vehicles. This suggests that Tata Motors, Hyundai, and Nexa are engaged in vigorous rivalry for the No. 2 spot in terms of monthly sales.

Senior Executive Director for Maruti Suzuki Shashank Srivastava stated that the company’s new SUV releases have contributed to a rise in its market share in the SUV sector and for the Nexa channel. Despite its success, the corporation still wants to strengthen its market position through improved production capacities.

In addition, Mr. Srivastava pointed out that the demand situation is still favorable, with industry sales reaching their second-highest monthly level in July 2023. Finally, Maruti Suzuki’s stellar success solidified its position in the Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh market segment and helped it become the world’s top SUV manufacturer. It is anticipated that the company will continue to grow, especially with the approaching holiday season.
