Google AI Mode Update: More Users Can Now Access Advanced Capabilities
Google is making AI Mode, an experimental feature that lets users ask intricate, multipart inquiries and follow-ups to delve further into a topic right within Search, more widely available. The tech behemoth is also expanding the feature’s capabilities, such as allowing you to continue searching where you left off.
What is the Google AI Mode?
Google released AI Mode in March to compete with popular services such as Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search. The enhancements released today are intended to help AI Mode compete with the aforementioned providers.
Who can use it?
With this extension, Google removes the AI Mode queue. Anyone in the United States over the age of 18 can now access the function provided they are enrolled in Google Labs, the company’s experimental arm.
AI mode is coming out of Google Labs
Google will also make AI Mode available outside of Labs by testing an AI Mode tab in Google Search, which will be visible to a small number of users in the United States.
Smarter AI-powered search capabilities
In terms of additional capability, Google allows users to go beyond asking specific queries about places and items. You can now utilize AI mode to find a new restaurant or items for your upcoming trip.
Visual Place and Product Cards
In AI Mode, you will now see visual place and product cards that you can tap on for more information.
Local Spot Discovery Made Smarter
When searching at local businesses such as restaurants or salons, you can immediately discover ratings, reviews, and opening hours. Product details will include real-time prices and specials, photos, shipping information, and local inventories.
For example, if you’re looking for the greatest antique shops with midcentury contemporary furniture, AI Mode can highlight local places, provide real-time information such as their occupancy, and allow you to easily call or receive directions.
Google is also making it easy to resume where you left off when using AI Mode, which could be useful if you’re working on long-term projects and chores. On desktop, you may now use the new left-side panel in AI Mode to access your previous searches, view the information you were provided, and ask follow-up questions.
