Nayanthara breaks silence on Annapoorani controversy and apologizes for hurting sentiments

After her movie Annapoorani was taken down from Netflix due to “hurting sentiments,” actor Nayanthara sent a statement. One day after its December 1 theatrical premiere, it was available for streaming. The actor now stood up to apologize and explain what she meant to say.

What is Nayanthara’s statement:

Some claimed that some moments in the film upset them and offended Hindus’ religious feelings. In response to the allegations, Nayanthara greeted her remarks with “Jai Shri Ram” and remarked, “We may have unintentionally caused hurt in our sincere attempt to share a positive message.” We were taken away by the OTT platform’s withdrawal of a restricted movie that had previously been screened in theaters.

“My team members and I are aware of the seriousness of this situation, and we never meant to offend anyone. It is the last thing I would intentionally do, considering I firmly believe in God and regularly visit temples around the nation. I sincerely apologize to anyone whose feelings we may have offended,” she continued.

What is Annapoorani controversy:

One Ramesh Solanki filed a police report (FIR) at the Lokmanya Tilak Marg police station in South Mumbai. He claimed that Annapoorani intentionally offends Hindu religious sensitivities by demeaning Lord Ram.

Zee Studios apologized to Vishwa Hindu Parishad after this. They stated to take the movie would be removed from the platform until the offensive content was edited out.

Finally, Nayanthara clarified, saying, “The goal of Annapoorni was to inspire and uplift, not to cause distress.” My career in the film industry has been driven by a single goal for the past 20 years: to promote mutual learning and positivity.
