Microsoft Paint for Windows 11 Insiders now includes an AI-driven Cocreator

Cocreator in Microsoft Paint is now available to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels as a new method to create art.

Microsoft is giving Windows Insiders on the Canary and Dev Channel access to a new AI-enhanced version of the Windows 11 Paint app. The app’s most recent update, version 11.2309.20.0 or higher, introduces Paint Cocreator, a new feature that Microsoft initially discussed at its special event on September 21 in New York. The function allows you to create artwork directly in Microsoft Paint without ever leaving the program.

This new function, which is powered by DALL-E, can be found in the Paint app’s menu bar in the brand-new Cocreate area. However, not everyone will initially be able to view this, so to get started, you’ll need to sign up for a waitlist using your Microsoft Account. After registering, you will receive an email with 50 credits to begin generating photos. Microsoft will display the number of credits required to create an image in the Paint program, right next to the Create button, but it states that each image production requires one credit. All you have to do is pick a style and verbally express what you want to make. Three variations of what you asked will eventually appear; click one to add it to your Paint canvas.

If you’re concerned about the privacy aspect of this and how it might lead to the creation of stolen art, Microsoft has some creative plans. When you use this function, content filtering is used to block any potentially harmful, offensive, and inappropriate photos. Cocreator is presently only accessible to multilingual users in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Italy, and Germany. There is currently no information available regarding the release date for this feature for regular Windows 11 users who are not Windows Insiders, although it typically takes a few weeks to a few months while Microsoft gathers user input.

Microsoft recently updated Windows with new features, one of which is Cocreator in Paint. A preview update for users of Windows 11’s stable version began rolling out on Tuesday, bringing with it certain 23H2 features including the AI-powered Copilot helper. Additionally, that upgrade gives Paint a new layers function and the ability to modify transparent images.
