WhatsApp Introduces Ads in Status: What Users Need to Know

WhatsApp intends to introduce subscription plans and ads for the first time in its history. Ads will appear in the Status and Channel sections of the Updates page, and business owners can now offer monthly channel subscriptions for access to exclusive content. Since its launch, WhatsApp has been free and ad-free, but Facebook, the company that owns the app, is now beginning to profit from its massive user base.
WhatsApp declared that it would be launching ads for the first time ever. These advertisements will appear in the Updates tab’s Status and Channels section.
WhatsApp explained that in order to display appropriate ads, it would use data such as the user’s country, locality, language, channels they are following, and how they respond to advertisements. Facebook will also use data and ad preferences from all Meta accounts for users who have opted to add WhatsApp to Accounts Center.
In the discovery section, it is enabling businesses and users to advertise their Channels, WhatsApp’s broadcast capability, and the ability for certain creators and firms to charge users a subscription to access exclusive Channel updates.
WhatsApp was previously only able to make money through business APIs, but that is going to change with the advent of advertisements. Users of iOS and Android will soon see advertisements, according to the business.
