Today’s Doodle Represents Greece National Day 2020

On the 199th commemoration of the Eastern Mediterranean nation announcing its freedom, the present Doodle observes Greece’s National Day.

After almost 400 years as a major aspect of the Ottoman Empire, the push for autonomy touched off as the Greek banner was raised over the religious community of Agia Lavra by Bishop Germanos of Patras in 1821. The blue and white of the Greek banner, like the one delineated in the Doodle work of art, was a progressive image of the Greek War for Independence. Through the London Protocol in 1830, Greece turned into an autonomous state.

Cheerful Ikostí-pémpti Martíou, Greece!
