Sigma BF: A 24.6MP Full-Frame Camera Redefining Minimalism

Sigma BF

The Sigma BF is a 24.6MP full-frame mirrorless camera from Sigma that is intended for unadulterated photographic expression. With only three buttons, a dial, and a shutter release, the BF’s radically minimalist design removes complication and frees up photographers to concentrate on their creativity rather than figuring out complicated menus. This interchangeable lens camera redefines simplicity in contemporary photography because it is small and strong.

Camera Deatils

The first body in camera history to be cut from a single piece of aluminium marks the beginning of the minimalist journey. The BF controls are reduced to a shutter release on top, three pressure-sensitive haptic buttons on the back, and a single control dial. A tiny, monochrome status monitor above the rear dial shows the user-selected value for settings such the shutter speed, while the 2.1 M dots display by default only shows the live image.

Pure Photography

The L-mount Sigma BF, which weighs only 13.7 ounces (388 grammes) and measures 5.1 by 2.9 by 1.4 inches (129.5 by 73.7 by 35.6 millimetres), is made to “focus on the joy of photography” by eliminating distractions and simplifying the process to its most basic elements. Sigma claims that in order to do this, it developed a straightforward, unambiguous, and entirely unique user interface that differs greatly from other contemporary cameras. The primary settings pertaining to photography are displayed on the live view screen, secondary settings are displayed in an optional menu, and “management functions” and more intricate settings are displayed in the system menu.

Camera Features and Design

As explained by Sigma, the body design is the first “true unibody” camera ever made. In other words, it takes seven hours to carve the camera out of a single block of aluminium. Sigma hence claims a weight that complements any mounted lens and hitherto unheard-of rigidity.

In spite of its simplicity, the Sigma BF has contemporary characteristics. With an ISO range of 6 to 102,400, the 35 mm sensor is paired with a hybrid autofocus system that employs both contrast and passive autofocus to follow both human and animal subjects in light levels as low as -5 EV. There are thirteen different colour modes in addition to complete manual adjustments. Images are stored at up to 8 frames per second as 14-bit RAW or JPEG files with 6,016 × 4,012 pixels.

With the camera, videographers may record electronically stabilised 6K and 4K videos at up to 29.97 frames per second and 2K videos at up to 119.88 frames per second. Stereo audio videos can be stored on 230 GB of internal storage as H.264, HEVC H.265, or L-Log files. In video mode, the camera’s basic ISO is 1,250. The video exposure can be adjusted with the help of selectable histogram, zebra pattern, and fake colour monitors.

Camera Weights

The camera weights 446 g (15.7 oz) with the battery included, and it measures 130.1 x 72.8 x 36.8 mm (5.1 x 2.9 x 1.4 in.). L-Mount lenses are compatible with the camera, including nine recently re-released Sigma I series prime lenses, ranging in size from 17mm to 90mm, with new colour options and product names but the same optical performance.

The camera’s hybrid autofocus mechanism uses “state of the art algorithms” to provide precise and rapid subject focus by combining phase and contrast detection. Through its subject detection mode, it can rapidly concentrate on people, dogs, and cats.

Colour

With an anticipated MSRP of $1999, the Sigma BF will be available for purchase in April 2025 in either silver or black. Performance and optical formulae will not change. L-mount will see these adjustments in April, and E-mount will begin to see them in May.
